Re: [SPC2] Fishing for villain ideas

These were some of my favorite villains in the last superhero campaign I ran. Maybe they'll be useful to you... Broadcast Power Source: Psychic, Alien Powers: Broadcast can create portals to the television world where he controls everything. Alien Power Boost: Broadcast retains control even when pul...

Re: [ETU] Scary Texas

Here is another question for you. You have all that personal info on them on the front, do you think when you show the players the cards that they will automatically think, oh that's how this NPC is and might hamper the roleplay? Do you think maybe seeing that, for instance on Grant Harroway's card...

Re: [ETU] Scary Texas

I'm designed my first "NPC card" for the "Scary Texas" ETU campaign. In light of Savage World's emphasis on props and making things visual, I'm considering making a whole deck of these. I don't use miniatures and don't have many maps, so I'm thinking these will give me something ...

Re: Bellflower, California: East Texas University

Got room for two more? MY wife and I would love to come in. Got characters that just need fiddled with and approved. Sure. We meet at The Guild House, a gaming store in Bellflower. We meet every other Saturday. Our next sessions are on January 7th and on January 21st. If you want, you can catch up ...

Re: Genre specific notice checks

On a related subject, how do you handle it when a character gets several raises on their Notice check? Like, they roll a 20 or something?

Re: Genre specific notice checks

I've noticed a similar issue in my ETU game. The players have commented that Notice and Persuasion seem to be broad, highly-necessary skills that come up multiple times every session. In my campaign, I've altered the skill list a bit. I'm still considering future alterations, but so far notice has b...

Re: [ETU] Scary Texas

So far, we're halfway through Freshmen year and there are a number of "open mysteries" presented as seasonal story arcs: What happened to Tyson August? In the very first episode, Tyson August was cornered by the players as he was trying to escape. Some unknown entity -- described later as ...

Re: ETU - Degrees of Horror - Adding more combat?

Freshman year is low combat. That seems to be by design, since characters need a strong justification for a d6 in a combat skill; low combat ensures that they'll survive long enough to worry about later semesters. Sophomore year has a few more combats, but things are still relatively gentle (by Sav...

ETU - Degrees of Horror - Adding more combat?

My ETU campaign "Scary Texas", is going great. However, so far in the freshman year, we haven't had very much combat. I know, it's a school, and it's about scooby doo mystery and investigation and stuff -- but all the artwork shows combat... and for a reason. My group comes from a D&D ...

Re: [ETU] Leaving Degrees of Horror

Tonight I ran English Patient, but with some twists. Cutter is a colleague given that a players are graduate students, did make him any less unlikable. Had the "attack" happen in a faculty lounge as one of the players is Glen Mac's TA. I upped Keyva's power making her an urban bruja with ...

Re: [ETU] Scary Texas

"Beautiful Smile" took some odd twists. I ended up making the painting about Timothy Diamond, a recently deceased student who was killed in the events of A Bite To Eat last session. He didn't know it, but he had an admirer in the form of Samantha Wilkes. When he died, she felt so bad that ...

Re: [ETU] Building up Degrees of Horror

Any others that are good candidates? I would play with Dan Freeman (Non-Demonination Demon) as much as I can. During his senior year he goes abroad and the players notice a dramatic personality shift when he gets back. This will be far more poignant and surprising if he's introduced early. I'm usin...

Re: [ETU] Scary Texas

I'm not happy with Beautiful Smile as its written and am looking for ways to "spice it up". I don't have any ideas yet, but I've thought of something else in the meantime. As a subplot, I'm considering adding a "luminescent blue fluid" as a recurring clue behind some of the Savag...

Bellflower, California: East Texas University

We've recently started an East Texas University campaign and are running through Degrees of Horror. As of today, we haven't finished the first semester yet so it's a good time to get involved in you're so inclined.

We meet every other Saturday from 4pm to 8:30pm.

Re: [ETU] Scary Texas

9. I created a schedule of gaming sessions based on advice given by DMbobby. I call it the Academic Calendar. The original advice (and additional advice on pacing a Degrees of Horror game) can be found here: http://www.pegforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=447949#p447949 Here's my freshman year: Late August:...

[ETU] Scary Texas

A couple things I changed in the setup for my recently-started Degrees of Horror campaign. 1. I really don't want the PCs running to Professor Maclanahan every time they have a problem. So I've introduced the character of Linda Darson (the angry woman complaining about the graffiti in Sweat Lodge) t...

Re: [ETU] Suggestions for Degrees of Horror

Truth. No one in real life should be running around chasing real monsters or attending a college that you end up having to do that. So...player characters should have a touch of hero in them. Otherwise they will run from every encounter and this makes a very boring game that will not last long. Jus...
